Pressure Washing Across Nanaimo

Nanaimo is where we are based, and it is where most of our work happens. It is also the most varied place on our service list, because the housing here spans about seventy years of building styles spread across a hillside that climbs steeply from the harbour, and what a property needs depends heavily on which part of that hill it sits on.

The older neighbourhoods have older roofs. Harewood and Chase River are full of mid-century homes on established lots, and established lots on this island mean big Douglas fir. Decades of growth overhead translates into permanent shade on the north slope, a constant drop of needles into the gutters, and moss that gets a foothold in the valleys and works outward from there. Roof moss removal and gutter cleaning are what we do most often in those areas, and usually together, because everything that comes off a roof ends up in the troughs.

The newer subdivisions have a different problem. North Nanaimo is largely newer construction on more open ground, with plenty of exposed concrete — wide driveways, back patios and long entry walkways. Less tree cover means less moss on the roof, but more sun means more visible algae down the middle of a driveway that never gets driven on, and more concrete to keep looking presentable.

Departure Bay and Hammond Bay get the coastal treatment. Homes with water exposure along that stretch pick up salt film on the glass and a haze on ocean-facing siding that inland properties simply do not deal with. Window cleaning comes up more often on that side of town, and waterfront homes generally want their glass done more frequently than the rest.

Cinnabar Valley and the properties out toward the south end sit lower and more sheltered, and shelter means slower drying, which means walkways and patios that stay damp and get slippery for a good chunk of the year.

Being based here is the practical advantage. We are not driving in from another town, so scheduling a Nanaimo job is straightforward and getting back for a follow-up look is easy.
